One of the main benefits of [metal roofing] is its unsurpassed longevity and durability that comes from its predecessor tin [roofing], which has been used to protect homes for a very long time. Unlike tin [roofing], which was bent and hand crafted during installation by tin [roofers], modern [metal roofing] is manufactured in wide array of residential and commercial profiles that offer unique styling and are made from different materials and coated with wide array of colors aimed to please the most demanding building owners.

Energy Efficient Roof

Modern [Metal roofing] profiles are coated with special solar reflective paint that not only looks beautiful, but also reflects solar radiant heat, which keeps your home or building cooler and results in reduced AC load, which can be significant in terms of energy savings.

Good for Environment

[Metal roofing] is fully recyclable [roofing] material that contains significant proportion of post consumer content and can be recycled at the end of its service life, which can exceed the life of the building itself. [Metal Roofing] is considered [green roofing] material because it is energy efficient and environmentally safe building material that can learn LEED credits in construction of energy efficient homes and green building applications.

[Solar Roofing] Ready

Latest technological advances have made it possible to combine some metal roofing profiles such as standing seam with soft [solar roofing] panel laminates that do not require physical penetration to [metal roofing] panels, but rather get attached using latest peel and stick method for standing seam roofs. Combination of [metal roof] and [solar panels] results in a roof that provides environmentally-safe electricity to the building owner as well as peace of mind of longevity and reliability that standing seam roof has to offer.

Reliability

[Metal Roofs] offer unprecedented reliability often outlasting conventional roofs by a factor of three. Not only does a [metal roof] lasts a long time, but it also provides reliable protection against strong hurricane winds that could easily rip conventional asphalt shingles from the roof of the building. In fact, many roofs in Miami Dade County, Florida are steel [metal roofing] profiles that can withstand category four and five hurricane winds as well as offer beautiful styling.

Light Weight

[Metal Roofs] are light weight, which makes it a perfect choice for re-roofing overtop applications. [Metal Roofs] weigh only a fraction of what a typical asphalt shingle roof weighs. What this means for the homeowner is that if they want to upgrade their home with a Spanish Style tile roof, then they would probably have to reinforce their roof structure, where as a Spanish Tile style [metal roof] weighs only half of what asphalt shingle roof does, yet it offers reliable protection of a [metal roof], is easier to install and does not require the reinforcement.

Prevents Ice Dams

Many modern [metal roofs] are coated with special coating which makes it easy for the snow to slide of the roof, which helps to prevent ice dam formation on your roof. Ice dams are a common problem for many older homes in Northern States. In fact, one of the reason for the popularity of [metal roofing] in states like New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont is that they offer reliable protection in tough northern climates.

Building Appreciation

[Metal roofs] can provide unique curb appeal and make your home beautiful, but did you know that [metal roof] actually upraises the value of your property and makes it more desirable in the eyes of potential buyer? Although initially higher priced, [metal roof] can pay for itself not just in terms of its longevity, reliability and [energy savings], but it also increase the value of your property and provides over 80 percent return on each dollar spent.

If you are considering a [metal roof] for you home or business – call Metal Masters Construction at 888-253-9402 and ask them for a free estime on your [metal roofing] project.

Gutter Guards – The Benefits And Drawbacks Of A Gutter Guard System

Homeowners use gutter guards to prevent debris such as leaves and other particles from clogging the gutter. There are different types of products that people can choose from when purchasing from online stores. A homeowner can purchase them on online stores that sell home appliances or online superstores that retail home and other appliances.

These products should be in good condition, especially during the rainy season, to prevent rainwater from flowing down the walls of a home. One can hire specialized cleaners to do it for them if they do not know how to do it. Most companies that sell home appliances also offer cleaning services for a fee.

Copper Gutter Guards

These are the best for long term use because they do not rust and nor do they rot. Aluminum gutter guards, which are cheaper than most others, are strong. However, they rust when kept in poor conditions. During the winter season, most people experience problems with their gutters, as ice blocks the opening at the top. If a person does not get rid of them the moment they start to build up, then the water may flow over it or against the walls of a home. The freezing temperatures may cause the formation of massive ice dams, thus causing the entire system to over flood. Homeowners can avoid this by having companies install heater cables. This is a costly procedure. However, it is worth the effort and it saves a person the trouble of having to keep unclogging their gutters.

Besides the installation of heater cables, many people purchase gutter guards to prevent ice from forming at the top and falling into the system and blocking it. A homeowner needs to maintain copper gutter guards by purchasing and applying sealants on them regularly to prevent them from turning green. The green color is also called a patina. Some people like it and allow the metal to gradually turn green. Others prefer to maintain the original color and apply the sealant regularly.

Aluminum Gutter Guards

These products also have special sealants that a person may use to prevent them from rusting quite fast. Unlike the green patina, rust will materially impair the effectiveness of the aluminum. Protection and maintenance is important because it enables one to avoid incurring extra costs, which include repair costs or replacements costs. When selecting a suitable solution, one should mull over a number of things such as the circumference of the gutter, the design as well as their functional advantages.

Aluminum, by nature, can be have a natural useful life of about 10 – 15 years. This useful life will vary dramatically depending on several factors including the external environment, the galvanization used and the maintenance employed by the owner. For example, using aluminum products in a house next to the ocean that are not galvanized with some sort of corrosion-resistance coating and poorly maintained is going to have a much shortly lifespan than a zinc galvanized product located in a dry (desert) community with an owner who performs annual maintenance.

From a design perspective, not every product is suitable for every home. Homeowners should try to match gutter guards with the existing system and the type of home. For instance, homes made out of stucco match well with copper, while grey houses blend well with aluminum.

Plastic Gutter Guards

Plastic is another material used in the fabrication process. They come in various colors. Therefore, one can select one that matches their roof. Homeowners can also blend the roof with a gutter guard of a different color though the two should compliment each other. The shape of the product may make a home visually attractive or not attractive at all. This requires a person to compare their shape and that of the product in order to select a suitable piece.

In summary, there are three major types of materials that you can use for your solution, copper, aluminum and plastic. Each one has its own strengths and weaknesses.

Expanding Foam Insulation Benefits for Your Home

Home insulation is often thought of in terms of its ability to reduce heating and cooling costs. However, this same ability is only one of the many perks of expanding foam insulation.

Expanding foam insulation is applied by spraying it on the desired surface. The foam then expands to fill small spaces in gaps that can cause air to be exchanged between the interior of a home and the outside environment. This prevents air convection from carrying heat between the interior and exterior of a home. In turn, this results in lowering the expense of heating and cooling a house. However, smaller heating and cooling bills is only the first advantage of using this technology.

The fact that air is inhibited from entering from the outside into the house also means that this remarkable substance is capable of improving the quality of air inside the house. Thus, expanding foam insulation can reduce the concentration of allergens, ash and pollutants within a building’s interior. This may be an important consideration if one or more residents suffer from allergies or respiratory conditions.

The ability of this technology to prevent the exchange of air between the interior and exterior of a building has yet another benefit. In particular, it is part of the solution to a problem known as ice damming.

Ice dams are walls of ice and icicles occurring on the lower portion of a roof. These walls of ice are produced by the melting of snow or ice further up on the roof. As additional ice and snow continues to melt, water begins to accumulate behind the ice dam. In turn, this accumulated water can leak into the roof damaging the structure of the roof and sheathing as well as the ceiling and walls of the structure.

Two of the four most common causes of the ice dams include “insufficient insulation or thermal bridging and a source of heat in the roof such as a poorly insulated duct or hot water pipes”. Providing sufficient insulation to the underside of the roof can prevent heat from being transmitted to the exterior of the roof. The smaller the amount of heat transmitted to the exterior of the roof the smaller the volume of snow that will melt reducing the likelihood that an ice dam will form.

The leakage of air into the space below the roof is a third cause of ice dams. As a result, it is important to seal the air barrier of the ceiling as much as possible. Expanding foam insulation prevents such leakage by filling small gaps and holes through which air can pass.

Small gaps and holes within the walls of a home can act as a conduit for which sound may pass. Therefore, expanding foam insulation can prevent sound from traveling from room to room as well as preventing outside noises from entering the home. Additionally, many foams have a high STC (Sound Transmission Class) rating which means that they are very effective in absorbing acoustic energy.

Expanding foam insulation is extremely versatile in the wide range of issues that it is able to address. Whether it is maintaining the temperature of a home, soundproofing a house and/or reducing the likelihood of the formation of ice dams, almost every homeowner will be able to find a beneficial use of this technology.

Finding insulation that gives you the most value for your dollar is a concern when you’re doing any building construction or improvement. One of the most adaptable products you can try is expanding foam insulation. Apex Foam offers several varieties that can meet your insulating needs. http://www.apexfoam.com
